Indian Head Massage

In India the practice of head massage is called champi (pronounced chum-pee) which comes from the Hindi word chāmpnā, meaning “to massage”
Champi, a traditional Indian practice of oil massage,
holds a significant place in the cultural heritage of India, particularly among women.
Champi is often passed down through generations,
with older women teaching younger ones the art of the massage,
along with the importance of self-care and well-being.
They are taught that beauty is not just skin deep;
it is about nurturing oneself and connecting with others.
But yes there are other benefits too!
Rooted in the 5,000-year-old science of Ayurveda.
Ayurveda teaches that the head is a powerful energy centre,
with vital marma points (pressure points) that influence the entire body.
Regular champi can:
* Relieve stress and tension:
Stimulates the release of feel-good hormones and calms the nervous system
* Boost hair health:
Improves circulation to the scalp, encouraging growth and nourishing the roots
* Enhance sleep quality:
Helps quiet a restless mind and prepare the body for deep rest
* Strengthen emotional bonds:
Creates moments of closeness and connection between giver and receiver
And did you know this practice became so integral to family life
that it inspired the English word “shampoo,”
which originally referred to the act of massaging the scalp, not cleansing it!
